Returns & Warranty

The Second Standard is located in Belgium. Belgian law applies to all our agreements. Below you will find our terms and conditions regarding delivery, right of withdrawal, and legal warranty.

However, if you are a consumer residing in another EU country, this choice of law does not protect you from the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. You will therefore always retain the protection afforded by the law of your home country, if it is more favorable.

1. Right of withdrawal (Returns)

As a consumer, you have the legal right to cancel your order up to 14 days after receipt without giving any reason.

Conditions for returns:

  1. Returns Policy: During the 14-day return period, you must handle the product and its packaging with care. You may only unpack and inspect the product to the extent necessary to determine its nature, characteristics, and functioning. Specifically: You may look at and feel the tool, but not use it for sawing, cutting, or DIY projects.
  2. Depreciation: If the product is returned used, damaged or incomplete, we are entitled to deduct this depreciation from the amount to be refunded.
  3. Costs: The costs for returning the package to The Second Standard are at the customer's own expense.

Return procedure:

  1. Please register your return within 14 days of receipt by emailing info@thesecondstandard.com, quoting your order number. You can also use the European model withdrawal form , but this is not required.
  2. Package the product safely and securely (preferably in the original packaging).
  3. Please send the package, sufficiently stamped, to our return address (provided by email).
  4. After receiving and inspecting the goods, we will refund the purchase price (including the original shipping costs) within 14 days using the same payment method you used.

2. Warranty conditions

The Second Standard specializes in refurbished (used) quality tools. We comply with legal regulations for the sale of secondhand goods to consumers.

Warranty period: 1 year

In accordance with Belgian law (Code of Economic Law), all our second-hand products have a warranty period of 1 year (12 months) from the date of delivery.

This warranty covers any lack of conformity (non-conformity) that exists upon delivery and manifests itself within this period.

What is COVERED under warranty?

The warranty covers technical defects that hinder the normal functioning of the tool and that are not caused by incorrect use.

  • Construction defects or manufacturing defects.
  • The spontaneous breakage of springs or locks during normal use.
  • Mechanical defects of hinges or tang constructions.

What is EXCLUDED from the warranty (Exclusions)?

No warranty claim can be made in the following cases:

  1. Normal wear and tear: Signs of use such as scratches on the handle, dulling of the blade, wear to the coating, or play that occurs due to intensive use after purchase.
  2. Improper use: Damage caused by dropping, bumping, prying with the blade tip, sawing into unsuitable material, rust due to exposure to moisture/acid without maintenance, or forcing the pliers.
  3. Self-repair: If the buyer (or a third party) has disassembled, modified or repaired the tool themselves, the warranty will be immediately void.
  4. Loss: Loss of loose accessories (such as bits, toothpicks, tweezers) after delivery.

Special provision: Outlet & Defective goods

The following applies to products in the 'Outlet' , 'Repair' or 'Parts' category:

  • Defects explicitly mentioned in the product description or visible in photos at the time of purchase are deemed to be known to the buyer. No warranty claim can be made for these specific defects afterward, as the product was delivered as described (i.e., with a defect).
  • The statutory 1-year warranty remains in effect on other (not listed) functionalities, unless the product has been explicitly sold as "completely defective / for parts".

3. Complaints Procedure & Resolution

If a product shows a defect within the warranty period, the customer must report this in writing within 2 months of discovering the defect via info@thesecondstandard.com .

In the event of a valid warranty claim, we will, at our discretion and depending on availability:

  1. Repair the product free of charge.
  2. Replace the product with an equivalent model (in comparable condition).
  3. If repair or replacement is not possible: proceed to (partial) refund.
