The Benchmade 551 Griptilian is designed by Mel Pardue and uses the patented AXIS-lock mechanism. This mechanism is fully ambidextrous and locks the blade via a steel bar that is spring-loaded into the tang of the blade. The handle is made of Grivory, a fiberglass-reinforced nylon, with a diamond-shaped textured profile for improved grip. This particular model features a blade made of 154CM steel, an American steel known for a good balance of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. This specific steel variant has since been replaced by S30V by Benchmade, making this item relevant for collectors of older production runs.

Condition:

Blade: Factory edge present. No signs of use, scratches, or wear visible on the satin finish or the markings.
Handle: Full texture of the Grivory is intact. No slick spots, scratches, or damage to the scales or hardware.
Mechanism: Functions like new. The AXIS-lock engages without play, and the blade operates smoothly. The blade centering is exact.

Transparency Grading

We are strict in our assessment so that you will only be pleasantly surprised upon receipt:

Grade A: In excellent condition. May have minimal signs of storage, but is in a very neat, unused condition.
Grade B: A fair item. May contain normal scratches or other signs of previous use, but is 100% technically sound.
Grade C: Clearly heavily used. Expect visible scratches, dents, or dull spots.
